This is located in the Eastern side of the Democratic republic of Congo near the Rwandan boarder and Lake Kivu and Goma city at the base. The Volcano stands at a height of 3470 meters (11384 feet) above sea level and is one of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains, and one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Its last eruption was in 2002 when its molten rock spilled over to the town of Goma and flowed into Lake Kivu burying and displacing many people.
Hiking up to the top of the volcano takes 4-6 hours, starting from Kibitsa village. The summit of the volcano contains a 0ne kilometer caldera with a clear view of a lava lake. Descending the Volcano takes about four hours.
