Uganda Gorilla Tours - Gorilla Tracking Tours & Safaris in Uganda

Gorilla tracking tours in Uganda are carried out in Bwindi Impenetrable National park and Mgahinga National Park. Bwindi is a home to half of the remaining endagared species of mountain Gorillas with over 340 individuals out of about 760 total number of Mountain Gorillas remaining in the world. Bwindi impenetrable forest consists of ten habituated gorilla families with two newest launched families of Kahungye and Oruzongoto in mid 2011. The other families are Nshongi, Nkuringo, Mubare, Habinyanja A, Habinyanja B, Mishaya, Rushegura and Ruhija. Only 8 gorilla trackers are allowed per group. Therefore Bwindi alone sells 72 gorilla permits each day for the nine families open to tourists as one family is reserved for Research and analysis.
Mgahinga national park has only one habituated gorilla family Nyakagezi with nine members and can be visited by 8 gorilla trackers each day. However, this family is not reliable as the Gorillas keep shifting to Virunga National park in DR Congo or Volcanoes national park in Rwanda. Therefore, sell of Gorilla permits by UWA for Mgahinga National park will depend on the availability of the Gorillas in the Park at the time.
